Troubled Bollywood star Salman Khan was arrested in Jodhpur airport, India on Saturday (25Aug07) after his appeal against his five-year jail sentence for killing an endangered species was rejected by a court.
On Friday (24Aug07), a Jodhpur court denied the actor's appeal against a 2006 court ruling that sentenced him to jail for five years for poaching a chinkara - an endangered species of gazelle protected under wildlife laws - while shooting a film in India's Rajasthan state in September 1998.
On Saturday, Khan flew from Mumbai to Jodhpur to surrender himself to local authorities, but was arrested in the airport lounge as soon as he landed.
After appearing before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Ravi Sharma, Khan was sent to the city's Central Jail.
Khan is hoping to appeal the ruling and is expected to seek bail next week (29Aug07).
The Straight From The Heart actor, 41, was visited in prison on Sunday (26Aug07) by his girlfriend Katrina Kaif, his brother Arbaaz and sisters Alvira and Arpita.
The star is also facing trial in Mumbai for his alleged role in a 2002 hit-and-run case. Khan faces 10 charges, including causing death by negligent driving which carries two years in prison. He has pleaded not guilty on all counts.
