Celebrity and Big Brother Winner Shilpa Shetty has been defending Richard Gere after the ageing actor tried to repeatedly kissing her at an Aids event.
Bollywood Actress Shilpa Shetty has defended harsh criticism over Richard Gere and his embracing of Shetty during a rally for AIDS awareness in New Delhi, India.
Shetty said “What he did was very sweet. It was all in good humour.” “He especially told me to tell the media that he didn't want to hurt any Indian sensibilities.”
Despite being “good humour”, public displays of affection are generally not welcome throughout India.
The incident sparked an outcry from some Indian residents, who burned pictures of Gere in protest.
Shetty, who recently made headlines for her appearance in the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother in Britain, said that she was “happy that this has happened because at least now people will talk about the issue of Aids and HIV.”
Gere is now currently in Tibet, where he is an advocate for improving human rights for the country.
